ABSTRACT

The Philippine education system has always followed the traditional learning method in a classroom setting. While technology allows continuity despite the pandemic, the sudden shift to an online learning environment affects students’ learning experiences. Adapting from the Expectation Confirmation Theory (Oliver, 1977; 1980), this study investigates the mediating effect of student satisfaction (SAT) between expectancy (EXP) and student performance (PER), and between engagement (ENG) and student performance. The study followed a quantitative descriptive-explanatory research design with 672 students from a private higher education institution in Bulacan, Philippines. The study reveals the positive influence of EXP (R 2 = 24.2%, 95% CI [53, 70]) and ENG (R 2 = 45.3%, 95% CI [67, 79] on SAT. Furthermore, there is a partial mediating effect of SAT between EXP, ENG, and PER. However, mediation was only partial because of the positive and direct correlation of EXP and ENG to PER.
